Ludo: what to know before playing

Read the aim of Ludo, then make your first move. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the example below to understand a decision. Begin with the local players mode shown on the page. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Practice beyond the first move

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Keep the controls in easy reach.

The steps to play

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use one clear input at a time.

Learn from a sample situation

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Look for the relevant detail.

Notice this detail

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Check the rule before repeating the action. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
